Medical studies by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) have shown that babies born to mothers who took Paxil during their pregnancy may suffer from serious heart and lung defects.
Paxil (generic name: paroxetine hci) is an antidepressant but is also prescribed to treat anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. More than 17 million people have been treated with Paxil.
The FDA advises that doctors not prescribe Paxil to women in the first trimester of pregnancy, or those planning to become pregnant.
